Got to grips a bit more with the posing over the past few days, I've rigged and rerigged him countless times over and over but now I think i've got a fairly good angle on what's going on with it and also how to sculpt the initial model, the arms were too close to the body and I shouldn't have done the fat round the neck because it caused quite a lot of tearing and cleaning up afterwards. Anyway he's posed now. I've had to fuck the clothes off which is probably a good thing, i'll make the new ones using this tutorial.

First attempt at posing. I've found the clothes are pretty much redundant for this process, i'll have to remake them. Also not entirely sure how happy I am with this particular pose, i've been fannying about for about four hours with the zshpere rigger and it's quite difficult to use without distorting the model all over the shop, i remember 3D max has a nice feature where you could affect how much influence a 'skeletal node' would have on the mesh which i quite miss in this. Also I need a proper reference too.

It's weird how one hour can quickly turn into four and before you know you've not left yourself enough time to watch the Breaking Bad finale. Most of this evening was spent trying to get the tshirt to extract without crashing zBrush or not having stupid artefacts in the extracted mesh. It's all learning though and it made the trousers a breeze. I've done some quick roughing in of fabric folds on the shirt but haven't touched the trousers, i like how it slightly homogenises the extracted subtool when you give it depth.

It's quite hard sculpting something with no gesture, i just really want to pose it into something with more spirit but to do so would mess up all the (at this point) much needed symmetry. It's not ready for clothes but I'm impatient and that the next chapter in my book, so that should be tomorrow's task.

A change of media

I need to bolster my portfolio with some digital stuff, because, quite frankly I have become weary of killing myself with chemicals, breathing in toxic dust and scrabbling around on my knees for a living. Therefore I've decided to learn zBrush to an acceptable standard, the future is in this kind of shit so let's jump on board and what better way to begin than with some Boomers. I might even CNC him if he's any good.

So anyway, three hours later, a very crudley blocked out fatty with horrifically mangled hands is born. Taking into consideration this is the first time I've actually sculpted something proper in this program rather than just fucking about pushing spheres around with the move tool and raking lines in them it's not going too badly. My plan is to do an hour minimum every single fucking day of this, even when the day has been rubbish:
